What is the format for teams?
The Strong Adventure Race will accept solo competitors in addition to three person teams (coed, all female, or all male) for the 8hr event. There will be no distinction as to gender for the solo division unless there are at least 5 of each gender. The 4hr event will only have three person teams (coed, all female, or all male).
The elite category for the day is
the 8hr coed division. ONLY 8hr coed teams will be eligible for cash prizes. This division will also be eligible for CheckpointTracker series points. Teams MUST register for the series in advance on checkpointtracker.com.
I want to register online but I don't know all of my teammates
yet. Can I do this?
Yes. For the second and third team member sections in the registration
form put the same information as you did for yourself EXCEPT, change
the first name to member2 and member3 on the respective page. Your team
does not have to be set to register.
What is the percentage breakdown of race legs?
The exact distances will be kept secret until the race begins.
You will be mountain biking on trail, gravel roads and paved surfaces, running on trail,
paved, and off-road surfaces, and paddling on flat water.
Do I have to bring my own boat?
If you do not have your own canoe, we will have a limited number available to
rent for $25 each. This includes 1 canoe, 3 paddles and 3 pfds. They
must be reserved prior to the race date, either at the time of registration
or by contacting race management. All rented canoes + equipment will be
delivered directly to the race start or other required locations, so you do not need to worry about
transporting your boat. In order to reserve a canoe, you must be registered
for the race. The equipment is basic camp stuff - do not expect the gear to be light or in pristine condition! Both single and double-bladed paddles will be available on a first-come, first-served basis on race day.
All teams are required to paddle in one CANOE.
Only solo competitors may use kayaks.
What will the events be like?
The paddling will be on a lake. Trekking will be both on and
off trails. Biking will mostly be on single track and gravel roads with some paved surfaces.
Mystery
events are anything we dream up before the race. The Camp provides some great opportunities that we will take advantage of :)
Where can I stay before and after the race?
Once again, we have negotiated CHEAP rates for those of you wanting to make a weekend out of the event and enjoy more of Lake Ocoee & Cherokee National Forest.
Rustic Bunkhouses = $10 per person per night
Tent Camping: $3 per camper for night
take a peek here at the bunkhouses:

If you do stay on-site, please keep your pre-race wandering to a MINIMUM. If we see you out scouting, you will be DQ'd.
Please contact Ashley at the camp to reserve your lodging:
(423) 338-5588
The closest hotel to the race site is the Ocoee Whitewater Inn is located at the intersection of 411 and 64.
The Cherokee National Forest is filled with many great camping areas if you'd like to rough it. Check out this site for more details.
There are many places to stay in Downtown Chattanooga if you'd like to be closer to the city. It takes approximately 40min to get to Camp Ocoee from downtown.
Do I need any certifications?
No certifications are needed to race.
What will parking be like?
We should have plenty of parking available on race day. 4wheel drive vehicles are not necessary. We do encourage teams to carpool!
When can I check-in
Beginning at 7am on Saturday August 14th. There will be no check-in available on Friday Aug 13th.
Will there be good places for my family & friends to watch?
Yes! We will have a central transition area where spectators can get close to the action. We can also point out other areas to snap some pictures.
Will there be food to purchase?
Unfortunately we are not permitted to sell food and drinks onsite. Racers and Volunteers will have access to drinks and a post-race meal. We encourage friends and family to bring a cooler so they can be properly hydrated and fueled throughout the day. The Ocoee Dam Deli is only a few minutes down the road and has great food.
What if it's raining?
As long as it isn't lightning, the race will go on! It's hard to tell what the weather will be like in August, but you could get chilled if you are wet and we have a cooler day. We encourage you to bring a waterproof jacket to have just in case.
